It was scary few moments for the 3 students when two burglars snuck through a window while they were sleeping. But it was their alarm system that saved the day.
One of the young ladies sleeping in another room got the alert and saw what was happening in the kitchen and called police. The video was captured by a product called a Canary, which starts recording when it’s activated by motion and then sends an alert to the owner’s phone.
Tom Powers with Powered Protection in Downtown Buffalo said, “The camera had coverage of the window where the intruder entered the home, so the placement of the camera was perfect in that situation.”
These suspects stole a backpack and a charger, but ran out after an alarm sounded in the the house.Powers said new technology is changing the world of security. Now you can have cameras in your home that can text, email and send you pictures.
“Within the last 3 to 5 years, it’s really come to the smart technology. It’s available on the smart phone, it’s available from a P.C. You can access it from anywhere in the world, so if you’re on vacation you can check up on your home or business and see exactly whats going on.” He said the devices are now affordable, charging you as low as $18 dollars a month.
Here’s what he’d like to see in a typical family home: “We would definitely recommend an in home security system to protect the home and we would like to see contacts in all the entry way doors back it up with motion detection inside the house, ” he said.
