In this tutorial we’ll go over some basic steps in connecting and configuring an Acti IP camera for first time use.

Step #1: Connect your camera to a PoE injector (midspan) or switch.

If the camera supports it, you can also connect a traditional 12 or 24 volt power supply. Since most of Acti’s newer cameras are PoE enabled, and this guide is for the E42A, we’ll assume you are using PoE. To access the camera from your PC, they’ll need to be on the same network.

Axis Communications has done it again with the release of their P14 line of cameras, featuring 4K Ultra HD. They are among the first manufacturers to release a camera with this technology.

Acti E42 Review

We had a chance to test a 3 megapixel bullet camera from Acti’s new E series. In this review we’ll go over quality and compare it to some of the other bullets on the market. Out of the box, the Acti E42, a.k.a. E42A, feels solid. The enclosure feels well built, sturdy, and rugged. In the box you get the, bullet camera, sunshield, conduit gland, mounting screw kit, sunshield screw kit, quick installation guide, bracket, bracket plate, and warranty card. The camera doesn’t come with a power supply so be prepared to purchase a PoE switch or PoE injector. This camera does not work with traditional 12 or 24 volt power supplies.
